Big Moves – From India to The Netherlands

“I was intrigued by the idea of working in a different country and culture, so I decided to apply.”

Big Moves, where we interview tech experts who have recently made an international move for their work. We talk about their motivations, the benefits and challenges of moving abroad, and share their insights and tips.

European Recruitment operates globally focusing on niche tech industries, allowing us to hire globally and help people relocate if necessary to work for leading tech companies. In this episode, we speak with Abhilash Chadhar, one of Joey’s candidates who moved from India to The Netherlands for a UVM Verification Engineer opportunity at a world leading artificial intelligence chip manufacturer.

How did the opportunity for you to move abroad for your career begin?

The opportunity for me to move abroad came later, I wanted to move to the US. However, I was contacted by Joey from your company through LinkedIn, who told me about a role in the Netherlands and how it matched my skills and interests. I was intrigued by the idea of working in a different country and culture, so I decided to apply.

What were the main factors that motivated you to accept the role and relocate?

The main factors that motivated me to accept the role and relocate were the chance to work on cutting-edge AI projects with a talented team, the attractive compensation and benefits package, the 30% tax ruling in Netherlands and the support from European Recruitment and the employer. I also wanted to challenge myself and grow personally and professionally by living in a new environment.

What have been the biggest challenges in relocating?

The biggest challenges in relocating were finding suitable accommodation, getting a social security number and adjusting to the local customs and language. However, other challenges were manageable with the help of European Recruitment and the employer who provided me with guidance and resources, but finding accommodation in Eindhoven was exceedingly difficult.

What advice would you give someone looking to make a move abroad?

My advice for someone looking to make a move abroad would be to do thorough research on the destination country, accommodation, its culture, laws, cost of living, etc., before making a decision. Also, be open-minded and flexible about adapting to new situations and learning from different perspectives. Finally, maintain a positive attitude and enjoy the journey!

How did your consultant and company help you with the move?

Joey was extremely helpful in finding me a role that matched my profile and expectations. He also kept me updated on every step of the application process and answered all my queries promptly. Your company also helped me with searching for accommodation, getting relocation allowance, bonus etc., which made the transition smoother. The employer also provided me with an orientation program, teambuilding sessions, etc., which helped me settle in quickly
