Lovely Toulouse lies in the South West of France by the River Garonne, a large city with a population of about 1,300,000. It has a booming economy as the centre of Europe’s aerospace industry and has been growing significanty for many years. Despite it’s growth and modern industry Toulouse remains a beautiful medieval city with a small historical centre.
Toulouse has a really nice climate, with hot summers and mild winters. It’s a bit more humid than a Mediterranean climate. To get from the city centre to the airport only takes 30 minutes and it has connections to most major European cities, including a flight to Paris every 30 minutes. The train station in the centre connects Toulouse to the rest of France, as well as Barcelona. There are highways connecting Toulouse to Paris, Bordeauz, Marseille and Barcelona as well. Bus services run to Spain, Belgium, Italy and Portugal.
Within the city runs a network of bus, tramway and metro lines. The historical centre is compact and easily walkable. Toulouse has many markets, including a Sunday flea market near the Basilique Saint Sernin; a fruit and vegetable market at Place Saint-Aubin on Sunday mornings; Tuesday and Saturdays there is a small organic market on Place du Capitole; and during the week before 1pm a vegetable market along the Boulevard de Strasbourg (Market of the Boulevards). The Marché Victor Hugo (open 6 am to 1 pm) is the largest covered market in town and has some of the best food in the region; bakeries, butchers with the famous Saucisse Toulouse, cheese stalls, seafood, fresh fruit and veg; some restaurants are on the next floor up.
