BMS Automation Engineer
Location: Midlands, Ireland (large?scale biopharma manufacturing site)
Department: Manufacturing Systems | Reports to Senior Manager, Automation & MES
Role Overview
We are seeking a talented BMS Automation Engineer to join the site Automation team at a state?of?the?art biologics facility. The position focuses on configuration, operation, and lifecycle management of Building Management System (BMS) and HVAC controls, along with wider support for process?control and data?historian platforms across the plant.
Key Responsibilities
- Configure, administer, and maintain BMS/HVAC automation systems and related historian environments
- Work independently or with external system integrators to deliver new automation projects and sustainment activities
- Develop and approve design and project documentation, standards, and SOPs to ensure regulatory compliance (cGMP / GAMP)
- Provide technical guidance to in?house automation and engineering teams on control strategy, network architecture, and system best practices
- Oversee vendor performance, ensuring timely delivery and quality workmanship on all automation tasks
- Support validation (IQ/OQ/PQ), change control, and deviation investigations for automation assets
- Drive continuous improvement and optimisation initiatives across utilities and manufacturing equipment
- Train operations and maintenance personnel on system functionality and change?control procedures
- Liaise with project leads to meet key milestones and, when required, act as delegate for the Senior Manager, Automation
Experience & Competencies
- 5 + years in automation engineering within a regulated GxP environment
- Proven hands?on support of BMS/HVAC systems (Siemens Desigo or similar) in a manufacturing setting
- Strong background managing third?party integrators and vendors
- Familiarity with PLC/SCADA platforms, industrial networks (Profibus, Ethernet/IP, Modbus), and virtualised environments
- Exposure to data historians, SQL databases, and change?control systems
- Solid understanding of cGMP, GAMP, and best practices for validated automation systems
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to generate clear, concise technical documentation
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline (or equivalent experience)
