Role Overview

An Athlone?based biopharmaceutical manufacturing site is seeking an experienced BMS?Automation Engineer. The successful candidate will configure, operate, and sustain all manufacturing, process, and facility control systems, with a strong focus on Building?Management/HVAC automation and data?historian platforms. You will join a site Automation team dedicated to maintaining compliance, driving reliability, and supporting both day?to?day operations and capital projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Configure and implement facility, process, and manufacturing automation systems—working independently or in partnership with third?party system integrators.

• Oversee vendors and integrators for both project delivery and ongoing support activities.

• Provide technical leadership to the in?house Automation team across all site control systems.

• Develop, review, and approve design documentation, project standards, and SOPs to ensure compliant system lifecycle management.

• Ensure all automation platforms remain qualified and audit?ready; support validation and change?control activities.

• Troubleshoot and optimise BMS/HVAC automation, controls networks (Profibus, Ethernet, Modbus), and associated historian or SQL?based data infrastructure.

• Contribute to cross?functional initiatives to maximise equipment reliability and process efficiency.

• Deliver training to operations and engineering personnel on automation functionality.

• When required, lead focused automation projects or deputise for the Senior Manager – Manufacturing?Systems.

Qualifications & Experience

• 5+?years supporting automation in GxP?regulated manufacturing environments.

• 5+?years hands?on experience with BMS/HVAC control systems in a production facility.

• Strong knowledge of a major BMS platform (e.g.,?Siemens?Desigo); Siemens PLC/SCADA or Neuberger ProGrafNT experience advantageous.

• Proven track record managing system integrators and sustaining plant?wide automation.

• Familiarity with OSI?PI or similar data historians, virtualization, and industrial networking.

• Solid understanding of cGMP, GAMP, change control, and deviation investigation requirements.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
