Camera Optical Design & Architecture Expert – Finland

We are seeking a highly skilled Camera Optical Design & Architecture Expert to lead the development of next-generation mobile imaging systems. This role centers on the design and architectural innovation of camera lenses and advanced optical systems that push the boundaries of mobile imaging performance.

As a key contributor, you will drive research, prototype development, and system-level design of camera lens assemblies and imaging optics, influencing the future of mobile camera hardware. Your deep expertise in optical design and imaging architecture will directly shape our product direction and technical capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the optical design of high-performance camera lens systems for mobile devices, from concept to prototyping and validation.

• Architect and evaluate novel optical systems and imaging modules, ensuring integration with overall hardware and product requirements.

• Develop and maintain a system-level simulation and design platform to optimize lens performance and manufacturability.

• Conduct performance simulations and tolerance analyses to support the transition from concept to production-ready solutions.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of optical designs with mechanical, electrical, and image processing requirements.

• Analyze emerging optical technologies, materials, and processes to enhance current solutions and guide long-term R&D strategy.

• Establish strategic collaborations with academic and industry partners to support roadmap development.

• File and support intellectual property strategies, including patent drafting for novel lens and architecture designs.

   

Required Qualifications

• PhD or post-doctoral background in optics, optical engineering, or a related field.

• Over 10 years of proven experience in optical lens design and camera module development, preferably for consumer electronics or mobile imaging.

• Expert proficiency in Zemax, Code V, and LightTools for optical design and simulation.

• Demonstrated success in translating innovative optical designs into high-volume manufactured products.

• Strong knowledge of optical materials, imaging physics, and lens manufacturing techniques.

• Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills in a multidisciplinary R&D environment.

Preferred Experience

• Experience with optical system architecture for computational imaging, hybrid lens systems, or folded optics.

• Understanding of end-to-end image pipeline impacts and co-design principles (optics + image processing).

• A track record of published research or granted patents in the field of imaging optics or lens innovation.
