Location: Dublin, Ireland
About the Role
The organisation is seeking a highly experienced Expert Rendering Engineer to join the Game Engine Team. The role involves leading research and co-development of a next-generation graphics engine aimed at improving performance for mobile games and mobile GPU rendering on the company’s operating system.
You will own key aspects of the rendering architecture, from advanced material systems and programmable pipelines to runtime optimisation. You will also interact directly with project stakeholders to influence the architecture, direction, and production roll-out of the rendering engine.
The position operates within a fast-paced international team, collaborating closely with researchers, engineers, product groups, partners, and customers deploying mobile devices.
Responsibilities
-
Lead a team developing real-time rendering systems.
-
Plan project roadmaps, allocate resources, and manage team growth.
-
Advise leadership on modern rendering and gaming technology trends.
-
Research and develop cutting-edge real-time rendering pipelines, including material systems, programmable pipelines, and ShaderLab optimisation.
-
Track key advancements in mobile computer graphics research (e.g., SIGGRAPH, Eurographics, EGSR, JCGT, i3D) and propose innovative solutions that push rendering and game-engine technologies forward.
-
Stay current with emerging technologies in commercial engines (e.g., ray tracing, virtualised geometry systems) and design practical implementation strategies for production.
-
Maintain relationships with academic institutions and industry partners to evaluate potential collaborative benefits.
-
Work closely with internal rendering teams to ensure alignment between research innovations and production requirements.
Requirements
-
Demonstrated ability to lead teams delivering large-scale technical projects.
-
8+ years of C/C++ development experience, with strong system architecture skills.
-
4+ years of hands-on experience with at least one modern graphics API (Metal, Direct3D 12, Vulkan) in a commercial setting.
-
Strong shader programming expertise (HLSL, GLSL, Metal).
-
Deep understanding of modern rendering techniques (ray tracing, global illumination, GPU-driven rendering) and solid 3D math skills.
-
Practical experience with game engines such as Unity, Unreal Engine 4/5, Godot, or similar, including use of debugging tools like RenderDoc, PIX, NVIDIA Nsight, etc.
-
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Additional Skills (Nice-to-Have)
-
Shipped game titles.
-
Experience contributing to the development of game engines (Unity, Unreal, Lumberyard, or proprietary engines).
-
Knowledge of data-oriented design and ECS architectures.
-
Ability to implement concepts from academic research papers into production-ready code.
-
Experience with Metal or DirectX 12.
-
Prior graphics development experience on Android or iOS.
