Photonic Components & System-Level Researcher
You will be joining a world-leading technology company at their R&D site in Munich.
Seeking a specialist in photonics to drive the design and integration of high-speed photonic components, with a focus on system-level optimization for applications such as access networks, data centers, and long-haul communications.
Responsibilities
- Develop advanced photonic components (e.g., lasers, modulators, SOAs) tailored to meet stringent system-level demands.
- Design and validate photonic integrated circuits (PICs), ensuring they align with optical network requirements, including PON standards.
- Conduct performance characterization under realistic network conditions, evaluating parameters like OSNR, chromatic dispersion tolerance, and latency.
- Use modeling to assess trade-offs involving power budgets, bit error rates, and other system-level metrics.
- Explore and develop hybrid integration approaches (e.g., combining SiPh and III-V platforms) to enhance scalability and efficiency.
- ???????Collaborate with systems engineering teams to co-optimize designs, ensuring research translates effectively into manufacturable products.
- Contribute to industry knowledge through publications and by shaping standards for next-generation optical networks.
Qualifications
-
PhD in optical communication systems, photonic integration or similar discipline
-
3+ years of hands-on experience with high-speed photonics, including component or PIC design and testing.
-
Proficiency in:
-
Component and system-level simulations (OptiSystem, VPItransmissionMaker).
-
Design tools for photonic devices (ADS, Lumerical, IPKISS, FIMMWAVE).
-
Multi-physics simulations (thermal-optical interactions).
-
High-speed optical characterization (>50 Gbps).
-
Link margin analysis and mitigation of nonlinear effects.
Strong track record of publications (8+ peer-reviewed papers or conference contributions).
Excellent English communication skills.
Benefits
- Annual Bonus
- Relocation Package
- Lunch Vouchers
- Equipment (laptop, etc.)
