Senior / Expert OS Engineer
We are seeking visionary Senior and Principal OS Engineers to work on the evolution of our next-generation Automotive Operating System. This is a high-impact leadership role focused on merging the worlds of Smart Cockpit technology, Autonomous Driving, and Vehicle Control into a unified, secure, and high-performance convergence platform.
At the Milan Research Center, you will architect the “brain” of the modern vehicle, optimizing macro and micro-kernel designs to unlock the full potential of state-of-the-art Automotive SoCs.
Key Responsibilities
- Reliability Architecture: Design a fault-tolerant, automotive-grade OS framework capable of maintaining mission-critical stability across cockpit and vehicle control scenarios.
- End-to-End Cockpit Strategy: Drive the architectural evolution of the Smart Cockpit OS from the kernel up through the framework, ensuring industry-leading robustness.
- Multi-Domain Convergence: Lead the design of virtualization and secure isolation layers, enabling efficient resource sharing between autonomous driving and cockpit domains.
- SoC & Kernel Optimization: Deeply optimize system performance by leveraging CPU, GPU, NPU, and memory bandwidth through advanced heterogeneous scheduling.
- AI-Centric Foundation: Develop core OS technologies that provide a solid foundation for on-board AI, focusing on efficient model inference and resource management.
Essential Requirements
- Academic Background: Master’s or Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related Engineering field.
- Kernel Expertise: 5-10+ years of experience in OS kernel development with a record of notable contributions to the Linux kernel community.
- Technical Authority: Recognized expert in kernel scheduling, memory management, device drivers, and system debugging.
- System Performance: Deep understanding of low-level optimization for both performance and high-reliability environments.
- Intellectual Leadership: A strong track record of patents or publications in system software, combined with the ability to lead major, complex system design projects.
- Global Communication: Fluency in English and the confidence to engage in high-level technical discourse and strategic thinking across multi-cultural teams.
Preferred Requirements
- Community Leadership: Maintainer status or Technical Committee membership within the Linux Foundation or similar open-source organizations.
- Specialized Systems: Experience with Real-Time Systems (RTOS), embedded OS, or original contributions to kernel development.
- Security & Compliance: Familiarity with automotive safety standards and expertise in virtualization and domain isolation.
- Emerging Tech: Experience with RISC-V architectures and next-gen computing platforms.
- Academic Pedigree: Publications in top-tier systems conferences such as OSDI, ASPLOS, or EuroSys.
