Senior Photonic Integrated Circuits (PIC) Design Engineer
Senior Photonic Integrated Circuit Design Engineer
Role Overview
You will play a key role in the design and simulation of advanced photonic integrated components and systems, supporting the development of next-generation optical technologies. Working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, you will contribute from early concept through fabrication, validation, and productization.
Key Responsibilities

Design, model, and simulate active and passive photonic integrated devices and circuits
-
Contribute to the development of new technologies and customer-driven engineering projects
-
Collaborate closely with research, development, and product teams to transition designs into manufacturable solutions
-
Convert functional and performance requirements into robust layout implementations
-
Lead layout release activities, including verification, rule checking, and documentation
-
Analyze experimental measurement results and correlate them with simulations to refine and improve device performance
-
Support the development and upkeep of internal design, simulation, and layout toolchains, including process design kits (PDKs)
Qualifications & Experience
-
Master’s degree or higher in engineering, physics, or a related technical discipline
-
Minimum of 4 years of experience in an industrial, high-technology engineering environment
-
Proven expertise in at least three of the following areas:
-
Electromagnetic simulation for photonic devices
-
RF circuit or PCB design and high-frequency electromagnetic simulation
-
Script-based layout generation for photonic ICs, including interaction with external PDKs and design rule checking
-
Photonic IC design, fabrication workflows, and testing methodologies
-
Optical, electrical, or electro-optical characterization at high frequencies (40 GHz and above)
-

Strong programming skills, preferably in Python, with experience contributing to shared or collaborative codebases
-
Ability to manage multiple technical workstreams effectively while meeting project deadlines
-
Demonstrated leadership capability within technical teams
-
Familiarity with Agile or iterative development methodologies
-
Clear communication skills and a collaborative, team-oriented mindset
