Senior Research Engineer – Lightweight Sandbox for Agentic AI

You will be joining an established IaaS team within a world-leading technology company at their lab Munich.

We are seeking a Senior Research Engineer to pioneer the design of efficient, lightweight runtime environments for agentic AI workloads. The ideal candidate will combine strong systems programming expertise with research experience in AI infrastructure, sandboxing, and virtualization technologies.
 

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of optimized runtime systems tailored for agentic AI workloads.
• Build prototypes and production-ready solutions focused on performance and resource efficiency.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate AI agents into larger systems while maintaining compliance with standards and regulations.
• Conduct and publish research on systems for AI in leading academic venues.
• Guide junior engineers and foster best practices in AI systems engineering.
• Research and apply emerging technologies in virtualization, containerization, and sandboxing (e.g., WASM, Docker).
• Benchmark, evaluate, and enhance AI agent performance, scalability, and resilience across cloud platforms.

Qualifications

• Master’s or PhD in Computer Science or related discipline, specializing in AI systems, operating systems, or virtualization.
• Solid understanding of machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) and large language models.
• Advanced programming skills in C, C++, Rust, Go, or Python, with experience in Linux kernel or toolchain development.
• Proven innovation record through research publications, patents, or open-source contributions.
• Excellent communication and presentation abilities, with experience engaging both technical and non-technical audiences.
