Web Platform Engineer

You will be joining a world-leading technology company at their R&D site in Helsinki.
 

We’re seeking an experienced Web Platform Engineer to enhance the performance and architecture of Chromium-based browsers for mobile and desktop environments. This role focuses on optimizing rendering pipelines, integrating hardware capabilities, and contributing to open-source communities.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and resolve performance bottlenecks in Chromium-based browsers across devices.
• Optimize rendering pipelines for various platforms including phones, tablets, and desktops.
• Recommend and implement architectural improvements to boost efficiency and user experience.
• Leverage custom OS and in-house hardware features to develop advanced web capabilities.
• Collaborate with the open-source community, particularly Chromium, and contribute code.
• Explore and implement performance innovations like parallel rendering and multi-core optimization.

Qualifications

• Strong proficiency in C/C++; Rust knowledge is an asset.
• Hands-on experience with modern web engines (Chromium preferred, WebKit, Firefox, or Servo also valued).
• Deep understanding of web rendering internals and system integration (e.g., Blink, compositors, graphics stack).
• Familiarity with graphics libraries like Skia and GPU APIs such as WebGL, WebGPU, or WebXR.
• Background in JavaScript engines (e.g., V8) and compiler techniques like JIT or PGO is a plus.
• Contributions to Chromium (committer/owner status is a bonus).
• Experience optimizing native Chromium embedding (e.g., CEF or Android WebView).
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset for remote and cross-cultural teamwork.
