Cambridge, UK

Cambridge is a beautiful city steeped in history. You only need to see the architecture to grasp that – the styles span from ancient to modern, exemplifying neo-Georgian, gothic Victorian, medieval and very modern design. Despite its rich tradition Cambridge has stepped forth in the modern era, becoming a centre for new technology and science research.

As expected with any town with universities and students, Cambridge has a massive number of pubs and bars. Be sure to know King’s Parade along the river banks, where shops line the street selling gifts and souvenirs; the market square in the town centre which Monday to Saturday sells fruit and vegetables, breads, baked goods, books and many other things.

Biking is the way to get around Cambridge; it has the highest level of cycle use in the UK. The fairly flat ground makes for ideal cycling conditions and many residents travel to work by bicycle. Much of the city centre is traffic-free and thus very pedestrian friendly. Cambridge has direct rail links to London (about 50 minutes to King’s Cross) and is also connected by the M11 Motorway.

The countryside and historic villages in the county Cambridgeshire are some of the most beautiful in the country. Cambridge also has some of the highest recorded summer temperatures and enjoys very warm summers.
