In our Big Moves series, we interview tech experts who have recently made an international move for their work. We talk about their motivations, the benefits and challenges of moving abroad, and share their insights and tips.

In this episode, we speak with Juan Fernandez, one of Jasmine's candidates who moved from Spain to Ireland for an Automation Lead opportunity at a leading pharmaceutical company.

How did the opportunity for you to move abroad for your career begin? (i.e.: what came first - the desire to move or the opportunity to do so?)

I have always been interested in new opportunities and projects in new locations, but in this case the new opportunity came first while I was working on a project in Spain.

What were the main factors that motivated you to accept the role and relocate?

It is a good opportunity to work on a very interesting project, an important company, and a big step in my career.

What have been the biggest challenges in relocating?

Starting again in a new place is always challenging, but there's been constant support from ER. The biggest challenge for me was leaving my job and the country where I had been for several years and start in a new place with all the uncertainty that comes with it.

What advice would you give someone looking to make a move abroad?

Ask all of the questions you may have about relocating and working abroad, this will help with reducing your worries and make you feel confident about taking that step.

How did your consultant and company help you with the move?

They were very helpful solving all of the questions I had and provided support during every step of the relocation.
