Software (Data) Engineer

Our client is a consultancy that helps clients build data products, and they don’t shy away from the real-world challenges. Here, you’ll be part of an autonomous team tackling the full spectrum of data engineering, from data warehouses to event processing.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with a small team to design and build data products for clients.
• Write clean, defensive code that can handle messy data, pipeline failures, and reprocessing.
• Champion Test-Driven Development (TDD) and data quality tools.
• Help interview and select future Data Engineers (we’ll train you!).
• Pursue a secondary focus area based on your interests:
  • Tool Developer: Build and improve their internal tools.
  • Content Developer: Share your knowledge through writing and presentations.
  • Aspiring-Data Engineer Developer: Mentor future Data Engineers at their Bootcamps.

Requirements

• Strong consulting skills: You’re passionate about simplifying complex problems and building trust with clients.
• Excellent communication (written and verbal) in English.
• Technical skills:
  • Significant experience in Python or Scala.
  • Infrastructure as code such as Terraform, CDK, Pulumi etc
  • Solid computer science fundamentals.
  • Experience with event-driven architectures, data modeling, and serverless-first solutions.
  • 2+ years of experience with Spark (or Hadoop) and Kafka.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience with AWS big data services (EMR, Lambda, Glue, etc.).

Bonus If You Have

• Experience in large-scale enterprise IT environments.
• Kubernetes experience (but not a requirement).
• Open-source contributions.
