Design Engineer – Thermal
About the Role
A dynamic aerospace company is seeking a Propulsion Design Engineer to join its growing team. The ideal candidate is a versatile generalist designer with expertise in thermal system design, capable of taking projects from concept through to production while considering the impact on surrounding systems. Technical challenges are addressed from first principles. Your work will directly influence the thermal management and overall performance of advanced propulsion systems.
In this role, you will be responsible for architecting, building, and validating thermal systems from early prototypes through to flight qualification, vehicle integration, and operational deployment. You will adopt a test-like-you-fly approach throughout all stages of development.
What You’ll Do:

Develop CAD models, detailed engineering drawings, and apply appropriate GD&T

Design thermal systems and create 1-D fluid network models to predict system behavior, transient responses, and sensitivities

Complete detailed thermal system design and size components such as pumps, heat exchangers, valves, and regulators

Use hand calculations and computational tools (CFD) to optimize component and system effectiveness

Analyze heat loads, conduction paths, and interface temperatures, and define instrumentation to validate models with test data

Lead design reviews and present findings to the engineering team

Assemble prototypes, establish test procedures, and analyze data to verify performance metrics

Troubleshoot thermal system issues effectively and recommend corrective actions
