Junior Data Engineer

Junior Data Engineer
Purpose
As a Junior Data Engineer, you’ll play a vital role in developing and maintaining the data infrastructure that supports analytics and operations across the business. Your contributions will be key to project delivery and driving transformational changes within the organization.
Responsibilities
Data Infrastructure & Support
- Provide first-line support for data engineering tasks, including managing and monitoring data pipelines, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring data integrity.
- Work with both structured and unstructured datasets to design and implement data models, performing data cleansing, transformation, and validation.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of data workflows, pipelines, and resolved issues.
- Manage user access to data resources and troubleshoot data-related errors as part of system administration tasks.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to identify data requirements and implement sustainable solutions.
- Monitor and address data pipeline issues to maintain data integrity and accuracy.
- Assist in developing, maintaining, and optimizing ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes for efficiency and reliability.
- Support reporting and visualization tasks by preparing and delivering clean datasets.
- Provide desk-side support when necessary, with a flexible office presence.
Project & Improvement Work
- Assist in gathering, documenting, and managing data engineering requirements and workflows.
- Contribute to developing guidelines and process documentation for best practices in data engineering.
- Assist in designing, testing, and implementing data pipelines and workflows using established software development lifecycle techniques.
- Help define and optimize efficient, scalable data processes to drive operational improvement.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure data-related initiatives follow proper planning, scheduling, and management practices.
- Participate in risk and change management processes related to data infrastructure.
- Participate in quality reviews of designs, prototypes, and other work products to ensure requirements are met.
- Support project deployment into new business units to align enterprise data with agreed frameworks under tight deadlines.
Key Competencies
Essential
- Basic understanding of data engineering concepts, such as ETL processes, data pipelines, and data quality management.
- Hands-on experience with SQL (e.g., writing queries, basic database management).
- Familiarity with data tools and platforms (e.g., Python, Power BI, Tableau, or similar visualization tools).
- Attention to detail across large datasets and multiple business unit data fields.
Preferred
- Experience with Snowflake.
- Familiarity with cloud data platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).
- Basic knowledge of version control tools like Git.
- Awareness of data warehousing concepts and architectures.
