Optical System Design Engineer
You will be joining a world-leading technology company at their manufacturing technology centre in Weilheim (greater Munich).
Responsibilities
- Develop custom optical sensors tailored for 2D & 3D Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) applications within semiconductor shop floors.
- Ensure the designed sensors adhere to given space limitations in production machinery & optimize for optimal process stability.
- Actively contribute to achieving process targets related to scanning speed & precision measurement.
- Specify subsystems & oversee test & evaluation tasks.
- Construct prototypes in our laboratory & validate their performance.
- Assess the robustness of sensors for use in dedicated machinery & validate their performance in real machine operations.
- Establish technician-friendly assembly setups, specify calibration procedures, & quality assurance processes.
- Document assembly procedures & actively participate in Lessons Learned sessions for continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Master’s or PhD in Physics, Optical Engineering, or related field.
- 5+ years of pertinent experience in the development of advanced sensors and/or optical systems.
- Deep understanding of Optical Sensor Technologies including Triangulation, Whitelight Chromatography, Morie, & Interferometry, as well as familiarity with OEMs, option providers, consultants, & the R&D landscape.
- Proficiency in optical simulation tools such as Zeemax, CAD Design Software like SolidWorks, & multi-physics simulation software such as COMSOL.
- Excellent communication & presentation skills in English.
- Willingness to work in a multicultural environment, demonstrating a high level of independent contribution & hands-on mentality.
