Role Overview

A cutting-edge manufacturing facility in Grange Castle, South Dublin, is seeking a Portable Lab Equipment (PLE) Systems Engineer to support the qualification, integration, and maintenance of equipment used for in-process testing within a GMP environment.

This role involves collaboration with Systems Administration, Data & Integration, and Validation teams to deliver projects across the full computer systems lifecycle. The successful candidate will join a specialized sub-team focused on Portable Laboratory Equipment, ensuring high-quality delivery of system introductions, upgrades, and changes while serving as a technical escalation point.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver technical solutions that support production needs, with a solutions-oriented and delivery-focused approach.
  • Oversee the introduction, upgrades, and changes of Portable Laboratory Equipment (PLE) in a GMP environment.
  • Work independently or as part of a project team to maintain equipment in accordance with site standards and good engineering practices.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with operational technology (OT) systems.
  • Support user account and access management during commissioning activities.
  • Provide technical support to internal Engineering and Operations teams as required.
  • Ensure audit and inspection readiness at all times.
  • Author and contribute to documentation, including SOPs, related to automated systems.
  • Develop expertise in automation benchtop systems.
  • Participate in biannual and periodic reviews of systems.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives for site-wide automation.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Automation Infrastructure Lead.

Qualifications and Experience

Required:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows Server and Client operating systems.
  • Hands-on experience with benchtop instrumentation such as cell counters, spectrophotometers, and filter integrity testers.
  • Basic IT skills, including account administration, ticketing, troubleshooting, and networking.
  • 2–3 years of experience in life sciences or other regulated industries.
  • Strong documentation and technical writing skills.
  • Familiarity with programming or scripting (e.g., C#, PowerShell, SQL).
  • Experience with systems integration/interfacing in control and production systems.
  • Knowledge of DCS, SCADA, and benchtop systems in manufacturing.

Preferred:

  • Networking experience with Cisco hardware.
  • Familiarity with Aveva PI system integration.
  • Experience in automation system validation.
  • Hyper-V experience.

Education:

  • Relevant technical qualifications (e.g., CompTIA certification) or equivalent hands-on industry experience.

Additional Information

Applicants with automation systems experience in other manufacturing environments will also be considered, provided they meet the qualifications and experience criteria.
