Mobile Camera Imaging AI Research Engineer
You will be joining a world-leading technology company at their R&D site in Tampere.
We are looking for someone to to lead the evolution of smartphone photography and videography. You will be responsible for transforming raw sensor data into high-fidelity visual content by designing, training, and deploying advanced machine learning models. This role bridges the gap between groundbreaking academic research and consumer-grade production, focusing on the end-to-end integration of AI into mobile imaging pipelines.
Responsibilities
- Next-Gen Computational Photography: Architect and develop AI-powered enhancement engines utilizing vision-language models, diffusion transformers, and generative frameworks to revolutionize image and video restoration.
- Optimization & Deployment: Bridge the gap between theoretical research and hardware constraints by optimizing billion-parameter models for efficient, low-latency execution on NPUs and mobile chipsets.
- Cross-Disciplinary Integration: Collaborate with specialists in spectral sensing, hardware engineering, and color science to design unified software-hardware imaging architectures.
- Data Strategy: Lead the development of high-quality training datasets, including the design of synthetic data pipelines to improve model robustness in challenging edge-case scenarios.
- Technical Roadmap Leadership: Define long-term innovation strategies for on-device vision pipelines and provide mentorship to internal engineering teams regarding AI integration.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree or PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Image/Signal Processing, or a related quantitative field.
- 10+ years of professional experience developing AI-driven image and video processing solutions, with a strong history of mobile imaging implementation.
- Hands-on mastery of cutting-edge architectures, including Latent Diffusion Models (LDM), Vision Transformers (ViT), and Diffusion Transformers (DiT).
- Expert-level proficiency in Python, PyTorch, and TensorFlow, with proven skill in model distillation, ONNX conversion, and NPU-compatible performance tuning.
- Proven ability to navigate ambiguous project requirements and innovate under technical constraints to deliver reliable, production-ready algorithms.
- Strong background in prestigious international science or math competitions (e.g., IMO, IOI, ICPC) is highly regarded.
- Excellent ability to articulate complex research findings to stakeholders and thrive in a fast-paced, international, and multicultural team environment.
