Expert – Medium Voltage Power Conversion Systems

You will be joining an established power electronics team within a world-leading technology company at their lab Nuremberg.
 

We are looking for a distinguished technical leader to serve as the primary authority for our medium-voltage (MV) power conversion research initiatives. This role involves spearheading the creation of next-generation power architectures and converter designs tailored for high-capacity energy sectors, including renewable energy storage, solar infrastructure, large-scale data centers, and heavy-duty electric vehicle charging networks.

Responsibilities

• R&D Strategic Direction: Define and manage the technical standards and requirements for all research activities involving medium-voltage power systems.
• Architectural Innovation: Drive the end-to-end development of experimental MV structures and converter systems, ensuring they meet the demands of modern high-power applications.
• Prototyping & Validation: Take full responsibility for the lifecycle of new converter concepts—from initial laboratory design to comprehensive functional verification and performance testing.
• Scientific Partnerships: Build and maintain collaborative bridges with universities and external research centers to co-develop pioneering control logic and converter algorithms.
• Intellectual Property: Identify unique technological breakthroughs and secure them through the filing of patents and intellectual property rights.
• Team Mentorship: Provide high-level guidance and professional coaching to a multidisciplinary team of research and development engineers.

Qualifications

• Academic Foundation: A Master’s or PhD degree in Power Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a strictly related scientific field.
• Industry Tenure: Extensive professional background in the industrial design or prototyping of high-power, medium-voltage electronics.
• Technical Depth: Profound knowledge of MV converter topologies, sophisticated modulation techniques, and control algorithms, specifically at the Megawatt (MW) power scale.
• Standards & Safety: A solid understanding of international MV regulatory standards and practical experience in insulation coordination protocols.
• Leadership Mindset: A proven history of driving technological innovation and providing effective technical oversight.
• Work Style: A highly self-directed and solution-oriented approach, characterized by a willingness to explore unconventional ideas and tackle complex challenges.
• Communication: Mastery of the English language (both written and oral); an interest in learning German or other languages is a plus.
• Mobility: Willingness to travel periodically to attend industry conferences, seminars, or project-related site visits.
