Automation Engineer

You will be joining a world-leading technology company at their manufacturing technology centre in Weilheim (greater Munich).

We are looking for a dedicated engineer to serve as the technical backbone for our laboratory automation infrastructure. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and implementing the electrical frameworks required to evaluate high-precision sub-assemblies. You will work at the intersection of mechanical design and electrical control, ensuring our R&D environments are capable of rigorous, reliable testing and data-driven analysis.

 

Responsibilities

• Infrastructure Backbone: Take full ownership of the electrical architecture for our lab automation workstations, ensuring all systems are robust and scalable.
• Systems Integration: Hands-on integration of precision motion controllers, sensor hubs, industrial PCs, and pneumatic actuation systems into a unified test environment.
• Cabinet Design: Engineer and construct custom electrical cabinets tailored to the specific requirements of our research and development teams.
• Operational Readiness: Ensure that test rigs are fully functional and synchronized with project timelines.
• Process Programming: Assist in the development of automated process flows and provide technical support to resolve complex evaluation challenges.
• Platform Alignment: Adopt and work within established proprietary process control software, collaborating closely with local colleagues and headquarters.
• Documentation & Standards: Maintain precise, transparent technical documentation for all electrical designs and system configurations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or a closely related technical field.
• 5+ years of demonstrable experience in building industrial automation solutions.
• A strong grasp of core automation technologies, including sensors, pneumatics, and sophisticated motion control.
• Proven practical experience in designing and fabricating electrical cabinets (certification as an Elektrofachkraft or equivalent qualified person is highly preferred).
• Deep technical insight into electrical system design, supplemented by experience in 3D printing for rapid prototyping of components.
• Exceptional communication and presentation capabilities in English, enabling effective collaboration within an international, multicultural engineering department.
• A proactive, problem-solving mindset and high level of intercultural sensitivity.
