Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

You will be joining a world-leading technology company at their manufacturing technology centre in Weilheim (greater Munich).

We are seeking a highly experienced technical leader to spearhead the development of next-generation, high-precision industrial modules. In this position, you will own the end-to-end engineering lifecycle for complex systems designed for 24/7 high-volume manufacturing environments, with a focus on achieving sub-micron (1µm) accuracy.

Responsibilities

• System Architecture: Oversee the design and refinement of advanced mechanical sub-systems, ensuring they meet rigorous reliability and precision standards for continuous production
• Engineering Lifecycle Management: Apply a comprehensive systems engineering approach to manage projects from initial client requirements through to final qualification and production deployment.
• Process Expertise: Leverage deep technical knowledge in core areas such as optical module assembly (including fiber optics and wafer-level photonics), precision die-attach, and high-speed data storage manufacturing.
• Translational Engineering: Convert highly complex process requirements into actionable, high-performance design specifications.
• Innovation & Scaling: Drive the integration of cutting-edge technologies to boost operational speed and precision, while collaborating with global headquarters to optimize designs for industrial-scale manufacturing.
• Strategic Capability Building: Mentor engineering staff and contribute to the long-term technical strategy and business goals of the organization.

Qualifications

• Master’s  or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Electronics or equivalent field.
• 7+ years of experience in within a precision automation environment, with a demonstrated history of leading technical functions and driving complex initiatives
• Proven track record in developing high-precision equipment specifically for advanced packaging sectors (semiconductor or photonic).
• Deep practical and theoretical understanding of precision manufacturing, bridging the gap between shop-floor realities and high-level equipment design.
• Mastery of precision engineering fundamentals, including static/dynamic/thermal system simulation, 3D printing, advanced material science, sensors, and motion control systems.
• Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to navigate an international, multicultural work environment.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving mindset and demonstrated intercultural sensitivity.
