Overview
An advanced technology research organization is seeking an AI Engineer – Spatial Intelligence to develop next-generation AI systems that connect real-world spatial understanding with intelligent on-device experiences.
This role focuses on combining geospatial data, multimodal foundation models, semantic search, and edge AI technologies to enable devices to understand physical environments and retrieve relevant local information. The position sits at the intersection of AI, mapping technologies, geospatial systems, and edge computing.
Key Responsibilities
Foundation Model Optimization
- Deploy, adapt, and optimize multimodal AI models for edge and resource-constrained environments.
- Fine-tune foundation models for specialized spatial intelligence use cases.
- Improve model efficiency, latency, and performance on consumer hardware platforms.
Spatial Intelligence Systems
- Design and develop systems that transform geospatial and location-based data into structured formats suitable for AI reasoning.
- Build prototypes enabling intelligent interpretation of physical environments.
- Develop methods for integrating spatial information into LLM-driven workflows.
Vector Search & Retrieval
- Design high-performance semantic search and retrieval solutions for large-scale spatial datasets.
- Build vector embedding pipelines for geographic and location-based information.
- Optimize retrieval systems for distributed and geographically indexed data.
Geospatial Data & Mapping
- Create data pipelines that enrich traditional mapping platforms with semantic and contextual information.
- Integrate real-time content, location intelligence, and environmental context into mapping systems.
- Support development of AI-enhanced spatial understanding capabilities.
Prototyping & Demonstrations
- Build proof-of-concept applications and demonstrators to validate new technologies.
- Rapidly prototype innovative AI-powered spatial intelligence solutions.
- Showcase the practical viability of emerging AI and mapping capabilities.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Degree in:
- Computer Science
- Artificial Intelligence
- Robotics
- Engineering
- Related technical discipline
Equivalent industry experience may also be considered.
AI & Machine Learning
- Strong experience with:
- Large Language Models (LLMs)
- Foundation models
- Multimodal AI systems
- Generative AI technologies
- Understanding of model deployment and optimization workflows.
Geospatial & Semantic Data
- Experience working with one or more of:
- Geospatial datasets
- Mapping systems
- Vector databases
- Semantic search platforms
- Embedding technologies
Edge AI & Deployment
- Familiarity with deploying AI models on constrained hardware using technologies such as:
- ONNX
- TensorRT
- CoreML
- Similar edge AI frameworks
- Understanding of performance optimization for local inference.
Software Development
- Strong programming skills in Python.
- Experience with AI orchestration and agent frameworks such as:
- Pydantic AI
- AutoGen
- LangGraph
- Similar agentic AI frameworks
Preferred Background
Experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Geospatial AI
- Digital mapping platforms
- Semantic search systems
- Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)
- Vector databases
