Technical Sales Engineer – Process Industry Sector
The Company
A leading provider of industrial automation and safety solutions is seeking a Technical Sales Engineer to support market growth across Ireland. The organisation delivers automation components, systems, consulting, engineering, and training services to a wide range of industries, with a strong focus on machinery safety, process safety, and industrial security.

The Role
Reporting to the Sales Team Leader, the Technical Sales Engineer will be responsible for driving profitable sales growth and strengthening market penetration across Ireland—particularly within the pharmaceutical, food & beverage, and wider process industry sectors.
You will manage and develop key customer relationships, identify new opportunities, and act as a technical applications expert for process industry solutions. The role also includes supporting wider business development activities across Ireland and the UK.
Key Responsibilities
You will:

Manage assigned customer accounts, deepening relationships and increasing revenue and profitability

Lead the full customer lifecycle—from opportunity identification through to closing orders and expanding share of wallet

Identify, qualify, and convert new sales opportunities in agreed regions and sectors

Develop strong technical knowledge of the organisation’s full product and services portfolio, becoming the applications specialist for the process industry

Act as the internal champion for process safety and process industry solutions

Support business development initiatives across the UK and Ireland
-
Work closely with the Sales Manager, Team Leader, and other internal teams across marketing, distribution, and technical support
-
Maintain accurate CRM records, including contacts, opportunities, and account activity
-
Produce sales reports and competitor intelligence as required
-
Follow all company policies, including H&S, security, and data protection requirements
The Person
-
Minimum 5 years’ experience in technical sales within the process industry sector (pharma, biopharma, food & beverage, etc.)
-
Proven success selling industrial automation, capital equipment, or safety solutions
-
Ability to discuss both technical and commercial aspects of automation projects from shop floor to senior management
-
Persuasive, professional, and confident communicator
-
Strong initiative, self-motivation, and ability to work independently and within a team
-
Full clean driving licence
-
Willingness to travel across Ireland, with occasional UK and international travel including overnight stays
Essential Criteria
-
Experience managing full customer-facing processes including presales, proposal generation, order administration, and customer support
-
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple customer accounts totalling approx. €2m annually
-
Third-level qualification and/or professional development in sales or a business-related field
-
Understanding of project engineering practices within the process industry and how they relate to commercial delivery
-
Knowledge of process automation technologies such as PLCs, control systems, safety relays, DCS, safe automation systems, industrial security technologies, and related equipment
-
Track record of achieving and exceeding sales targets

Strong IT proficiency with tools used for sales management and reporting
Desired Criteria
-
Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to machinery and process safety (e.g., IEC 61511, Machinery Directive)
-
Experience working with ERP or CRM tools (e.g., SAP or similar)

Understanding of industrial security risk assessment methodologies

Postgraduate business or commercial qualification
-
Strong contact network within pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, medical technology, and/or food & beverage sectors in Ireland
-
Experience working within global or multicultural environments
