Principal BMS Industrial Architect
Principal Systems Architect – Industrial Energy & BMS
We are seeking a Lead / Principal Systems Architect to serve as the primary technical authority driving next-generation Battery Management System (BMS) architectures. Moving beyond traditional sectors, our client is expanding their dominant market footprint into high-growth industrial domains, including utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), microgrids, and critical energy infrastructure.
In this high-visibility position, you will own the end-to-end architectural framework spanning hardware, embedded firmware, edge-to-cloud connectivity, and functional safety. You will bridge the gap between initial customer engagement, product definition, and long-term IC chip roadmaps, while serving as a key technical mentor to international engineering teams.
Core Focus & Responsibilities
- Architectural Ownership: Define, model, and own scalable reference architectures for large-scale energy storage deployments (including module, rack, and container-level topologies).
- Strategic Roadmap Influence: Evaluate technology gaps to propose new features for future silicon platforms and IC product lines; translate market-level demands into precise engineering requirements.
- Technical Consultation: Act as the principal technical interface for major industrial clients, energy integrators, and ecosystem partners from early concept alignment through to validation.
- System Integrity & Standards: Evaluate trade-offs regarding safety, lifecycle optimization, cost, and diagnostic redundancy. Ensure full alignment with international industrial safety and reliability compliance standards.
- Validation Strategy: Guide cross-functional validation, application, and testing groups on hardware proof-of-concepts, reference designs, and complex system-interaction testing.
Required Profile & Qualifications
Professional Experience
- Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE minimum; Master’s or PhD highly valued).
- 10+ years of deep technical domain experience centered on power electronics, BMS platforms, or stationary industrial energy storage applications (BESS).
Technical Competencies
- System-Level BMS Knowledge: Mastery of multi-cell battery topologies, system sizing, performance modeling, and lifetime optimization.
- Core Engineering: Background in mixed-signal design, embedded topologies, and standard industrial communication protocols.
- Algorithmic Concepting: Advanced grasp of core BMS controls (state-of-charge/state-of-health estimation, balancing, protection, and diagnostics).
- High-Availability Frameworks: Experience incorporating safety concepts, fault tolerance, and diagnostics into high-power environments.
Preferred/Value-Add Backgrounds
- Familiarity with high-availability power infrastructure (e.g., mission-critical data centers or backup energy environments).
- Exposure to industrial automation, robotics electrification, edge computing, or industrial energy management software.
- Proven ability to self-direct technical strategy and influence international, multidisciplinary engineering teams.
